Cameras: is image stabilized zoom the same as optical zoom?

I have no experience with cameras, and I want to take close up detailed pictures of coins. Someone said they can get good pictures with 3x optical zoom. I am looking at ads that say: image stabilized zoom-6x and more. Is that better? Would that have what I need? Is it just another way of saying; optical zoom? Also, the ads don't say if they have a macro mode; I'm guessing that it's understood that they all have that?
